We are a German/English bilingual classroom located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. More than ever before, children are exposed to a variety of things through social media, especially the Internet. This blog serves as a vehicle to allow students to have a voice as well as to teach proper social media etiquette. The majority of blog posts will be from the students combined with a few from their fearless leader. Hope you enjoy reading!

Fairytales
Most people that think they are super cool think that Fairytales are for babies, but they're not. I have always enjoyed reading Fairytales. So I am interested in doing the Fairytale unit with our whole school. Like really, we could perform a play or make up our own Fairytales. The possibilities are endless and the themes are intriguing! Imagine, the principal dressing up as the Queen of the Fairytale Forest for one whole month! One day we got to go for Tea with the Queen of the Fairytale Forest. We got to miss class, eat cookies and drink tea and talk about our future like characters in happy Fairytales!
Lately, we have been reading Fairytales in German and English and then comparing them. I find that Walt Disney makes the stories happier and not so scary. If you read the Grimm stories they’re more frightening. Since we have been sharing Fairytales that we have written it has been interesting to hear from different viewpoints or the effects of changing characters. I have noticed that this unit is going to be a lot of fun and exciting, as well as a learning experience for years to come! What do think about learning more about Fairytales?

Well I do like the Grimm Fairy Tales more... but im a boy so I don't know if the makes a difference. Or it could just be my opinion.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed it when we got to go have tea and cookies with the "Queen of the Fairy Tale Forest"! It was yummy!

I think it would be fun learning about more Fairy Tale's... but keep them Grimm!
Exactly!!! I think the "grimmer" they are, the better they are!!!

Fairytales are garbage. Why could we not do something like a Hunger Games unit? I mean in LA we like almost never do good books for our book projects. The best our school as ever done is Mrs. Frisby and the rats of nimh. And that was not even that good of a book.
ReplyDeleteThe worst thing is our princepal dressing up as a queen. I mean, this is not a school is not for elves and wizards so why do we have the "Queen of the fairytale forest" here. Shouldn't she be frolicking with red ridinghood or geussing rumplestizkens name.
Thats all I got to say about this weird series of events.
Ya! Fairytales aren't for baby's! They can be for anyone. Old or young. People shouldn't say that Fairytales are for baby's when Fairytales can teach you a lesson.
ReplyDeleteThe Fairytale unit was fun and exciting. The tea was great. The funny thing about it was are princeble dressing up! She had this staff thingy that was cool!
Writing are own Fairytales was fun! I personaly think mine was the best. It was Goldilock's and the 3 Bears. It's awesome! We're doing a play on it.
Well I think Fairytales are cool, and NOT for baby's! I like Fairytales!

I think fairytales are a good way to learn a lesson. Although the morals are sometimes hidden, if you look hard enough, you can always find them. I think they are also a great source of entertainment!
ReplyDeleteWriting new fairytale can be just as fun as reading them. You can make up a totally new one, add a modern twist to one of your favourite fairytales, or switch the good people to the bad people, and add a different quest. It can be fun to read your friends fairytales as well, to see how they switched things up!
Fairytales can be scary, gross, funny, sad, frustrating, happy, and even romantic. I think they are great!

Yes! Who said Fairy tales are for baby's! Fairy tails are something EVERYONE (even the cool kids) should know! Fairy tales will most likely not always be here if we don't listen or "study" them they will be gone!
ReplyDeleteFairy tales are very important things in our lives because they teach Morals like: not to talk to strangers (Little Red Riding Hood) or if you do something good something food will happen to you (Cinderella)!

I agree with you "Skigirl123", fairy tales are quite fun!
ReplyDeleteI like how no two fairy tales are alike. They all state an important moral/ lesson, to discourage any bad ideas kids might have and so that the kids can learn from the characters mistakes.
You can always have fun changing fairy tales up and making them your own with a switch of character roles or by adding something new or different to the story. You could make them spooky, funny or even sad.
I love to write fairy tales! I always have so much fun writing about magic, talking animals, etc... and sharing them with my friends or my class.
Like some others already said fairy tales are NOT only for little kids. Anyone can enjoy reading a little fairy tale once in a while!
