This is the time of year at our school were we do our student council election. All we do is put up posters and do speeches. I ran one year and failed miserably in all aspects. i am going to tell you what i think about this whole election thing.
I don’t really like the student council elections that we do because your friends always want you to vote for them you feel kind of bad. At our school we get two choices on who we vote for which is better than one vote. It wouldn’t be that bad if you only had two friends running but I have five friends running and I am not the best at making my mind up.
Which brings me to my next point, which is all the empty promises. People always say they are the best choice and they are planning something special like a movie day or a all out sports day. That would all be fine and dandy if they actually did that which 99.9% of the time never does. thats what I think about all the things people say they can do.
The one thing I actually like about the student council election is the tons of candy people hand out after they’re finished their speeches. Thats the only thing i really look forward to in this whole election mumbo jumbo.

ReplyDeleteThis year I ran for student council and I sort of agree with Hardeeharhar. One reason I disagree is because you shouldn't be voting for your friends, you should be voting for the person you think is the best to represent you. Unless they are the best choice. I also agree with him because sometimes it doesn't happen. I don't think that my ideas would have gone through because there are also other members on student council that might not like them.

I'm sure you didn't fail THAT miserably... Yeah, I TOTALLY AGREE!!! It's really hard to choose between your friends,but if you pretend that all the candidates are your BFF's then you can choose based on who will be the BEST rep. Most candidates don't do the thing they promise, but I have experience with the Council and it's usually just voting for ideas the teachers have. The YUMMY candy and AWESOME treats that they bribe us with are TOTALLY AWESOME!!!!! Well that's ALL I have to Say!!!

ReplyDeletelost both times. Many people win all 3 years in a row. They have a good speach 1 year and then do a good job that year and get elected the next 2 years. I also find it hard to decide who to vote
for. This year I was gone during elections but the other 2 years I had to decide who to vote for. Some people just don't understand that you can't always keep promises.
If in real life you don't or can't have to vote why do we have to vote in student elections?

Hardeeharhar,I agree with you.Your friends always want you to vote for you and will always want to know who you vote for.The representatives always say they will do stuff that they never do.I also do not belive in briding,because you should vote for who is the best.Sometimes I think people only vote for your best friends only.

ya, I agree about the 99.9% thing but all the things that we saw are voted for. Sometimes the other people are do not like them. It is also Ms mah that comes up with a lot of ideas, and mostly those ideas are voted for. I also agree about how you said it is kind of tough to vote for only two people when there are so many people trying out and most of there ideas come true, but I we do try to as hard as we can to make our ideas come true

ReplyDeleteI know how you feel. I did really bad last year to. but not everybody is amazing at politics. Some people are really good at convincing people to vote for them. I really love the point you made about CANDY being your favourite part of the elections that's my favourite to. Your blog is really cool and never ever stop trying to win at the elections.

There's one thing that I don't agree on. Voting isn't about choosing your friends,it's about picking who you think is best for the job. Candy sometimes makes you think highly of someone else, but that shouldn't mean you should choose them.I think you have a point though!

I think student council election is very important. Though I partly agree with Hardeeharhar. It's difficult when you've got lots of friends running, but it's not always your friends you have to vote for. It's who you think, would best represent you and who's ideas you like the best.

Good points all around. The one thing that the students reps will soon find out is that they may have good ideas, but so do others on council. Everything they said that they would do can't always come true, so it seems like empty promises. Maybe take this as a learning point and not make promises. The point is that you TRY to persuade others to like your idea and listen to the class to bring other ideas forward. That is what being a representative is all about.
