Why Not Build Mega Schools?

Have you ever wondered if we should build mega schools?  I have.

Sometimes I wonder why we have some schools which have roughly 60 kids.  For example, Riverdale School.  To me it’s pointless to keep that school open!  They should cut that school off no matter how much they protest.  Look at Fulton, how many kids attended that school.  Yeah sure, the parents were probably upset, but did they protest? No!  What I think is that they should tear down some worthless building, and build one huge school there.  And shut down 4 other schools that equals + 700 kids.  Why waste precious money to keeping a school running with far too few students?  The Edmonton Public School board should  just shut the school down and that’s  the end of it.  Do they have to follow the choices made by the minority?  I don’t think so!  They should just go with what they think is right for this magnificent city of ours.  So in my opinion, shut down schools with less than 210 kids, and build on the grounds of some old building and build one huge mega school where that old power plant in downtown is.  A mega school could be the most technologically advanced school in Edmonton.  Now a days people aren’t making a whole bunch of friends, imagine how many friends they can make in a school that size, and with so many kids.  So now what’s your opinion?  Tell me NOW.  Hope to see all your advice on this topic.J

    I think a mega school would be a bad idea because when a kid is school age his parents wouldn't have very many options for schools. And in the hallways it would be way too crowded. At assemblys it would be so noisy that teachers like fr.stenzel with hearing problems like her would have to leave for the rest of the day because they would have huge migranes. And mega schools would probably cost a lot of money to build.
    But mega schools could be good because then the city could use the land to build something else like restaurants or shops. And they would need a lot less teachers but the classes would be bigger.

      Forza I agreee with the last part, But still, how many teachers like fr. Stenzel will work there any way? If kids always clear out fast then the halls won't be crowded.

    cause mega schools would have mega problems. they would have to hand out so many detentions

    I don't like the idea of mega schools for many reasons. First, to tear down a whole bunch of schools and then build a super big one would probably take a few years. Where would all of those kids go, because it could take quite a long time to drive to another school depending on where you live. Not many kids want to sit on a noisy school bus for an hour or more!(I know some kids do take the bus but come on!) Also there would be a lot of transfer forms to fill out and sign but,let's face it, nobody needs more paper work. Second the classes would be over full and students wouldn't do as well because nobody would have individuel attention. Third, how can more kids make a school technologically advanced? Fourth, it would take alot of money to keep more then one mega school open. It's just not worth it! Last but certainly not least think of the parents and kids. For some kids their parents and grandparents went to their school for all we know. It may have history. Any way my point(finally!)is that there should be no mega schools built!

    I dont think that a mega school is that good. A=because there are many school that believe in different things and the languages are different. B=because look at the div. 2 hallway, how much space is there? BERELY NONE!!! in a mega school with 700 kids it would be like that everywhere!. C=because I like small class rooms, small amount of people and small schools.

    What do you think?

    I thing mega schools are awesome. In my country there are almost 1000 mega schools. It is fun to have grade 1 to grade 12 in ONE school. Awesome!!!!!!
